Treating bite problems with Invisalign
You can use Invisalign clear braces to correct the alignment of your teeth for a better bite. They are effective in addressing every type of bite problem, including crossbites and open bites. Bite issues affect a person’s appearance and can undermine confidence, so correcting them is right at the top of many patients’ priority lists.
Invisalign treatment for crowded and spaced bites
Crowding is due to a lack of space in the jaw to keep all your teeth in their proper positions, and spacing is the opposite. Well-aligned teeth are the most resistant to the trapping of food debris, but both crowding and spacing can easily trap and retain particles between the gums and teeth, leading to gum disease and the development of plaque. Invisalign trays discreetly address these issues by methodically realigning your jaws and teeth through a series of trays made specifically for your mouth.
Overbites and underbites
When your top teeth overhang your bottom teeth, we call it an overbite, and we refer to the opposite as an underbite. Both misalignment issues are common and can cause tooth wear and jaw pain. Our friendly dental professionals use 3d technology to create braces that can correct either type of bite issue.
Crossbites and open bites
A crossbite is a horizontal misalignment of teeth and jaws, creating a combination of an overbite and an underbite, and an open bite is when the upper and lower teeth don’t fully meet. We consider these structural issues more complex than other types of bite, but you can treat both using Invisalign braces.
Can Invisalign treat the most severe alignment issues?
Invisalign braces are incredibly versatile and effective. The 3D technology that generates your bespoke set of trays can address all manner of bite issues, but even Invisalign has its limits and may work best in conjunction with surgery or other treatments.. If in doubt, get in touch!
Other factors to bear in mind when considering Invisalign braces
The age of the patient
As we age, our bones become more resistant to the kind of reshaping/realigning that clear braces promote. A younger patient might experience long-lasting or even permanent changes to the shape of their mouth, but in older patients, the teeth can slowly shift towards their original position. Invisalign braces are highly effective, but it’s important to understand all potential outcomes.
How well the patient manages their Invisalign treatment
Invisalign braces work most effectively when you follow the instructions. The trays apply gentle but consistent pressure to the jaws and teeth, and you should wear them for at least 20 out of 24 hours, though 22 hours are recommended to maximise results. Remove the trays before engaging in any sporting activity where they might get damaged, and also before eating, to avoid warping from the pressure of chewing. If patients follow these simple guidelines, they can trust Invisalign to work its magic!
