How Do Dental Implants Compare To Other Tooth Replacement Treatments?

When it comes to replacing your teeth, you’ll want to know what options are available, so you can be sure you’re making the best choice. Thankfully, we’re here to guide you on just that. In today’s blog post, we’re sharing a variety of tooth replacement treatments you could consider for your smile – including dental implants.

So, what’s available besides Dental Implants?

There are three types of treatment you could consider. The first is dental implants, which are permanent false teeth that are implanted into your jaw and underlying bone. The second is dentures, which can replace one or both sets of teeth. These are generally removable apparatus made of materials like acrylic, but you can also have implant-retained dentures. And lastly, there are bridges, which are used for one or more missing teeth, suspending false teeth on implant anchor points or your existing natural teeth.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Tooth implants are known for their lifelike appearance, their durability and strength, and for being a lasting treatment. In fact, they could last a lifetime with the right care and attention. Dental implants have a long and successful history and are the only permanent solution available.

What are the benefits of dentures?

Dentures can replace your top set and bottom set of teeth (or both). Removable dentures are typically a cheaper alternative to a dental implant procedure, but require more in the way of cleaning and can be tricky to adjust to. Some patients also find they can move or slip around in the mouth, meaning changes to diet may be required. Implant-retained dentures allow you to eat and drink your normal diet, and can be cared for in the same way as your natural teeth.

What are the benefits of bridges?

Again, it’s usually down to cost. If you have a single missing tooth, you can use a bridge to support a false tooth on a natural tooth at either side, though this does require some filing preparation. Tooth implants can replace a single tooth, or in the case of implant-supported bridges, you can use a dental implant anchor at either side of the false tooth.
